Lesson 9. The Art of Giving and Getting

Yesterday we talked about meeting the other vendors in order to build your community and give yourself even more of an opportunity to make the event successful. If you missed it, you can catch up on all 8 previous lessons here.

The event has started….

You’ve done everything right up to this point…..

Your booth is looking great

You’ve involved your community and everyone is winning

You’ve set up an interactive experience to actively involve the attendees (LYM Wall in Lesson 3

Your team looks good

You’ve got the perfect product to hand out

And……

People are noticing you!!!!!

Now it’s Game Time and your opportunity to share your story with everyone who comes to the booth…

But wait…. What’s your plan?

How are you going to greet them?

What are you going to say when they ask you what your business is all about?

How are you going to ask for their email or contact info?

What is your system for tracking the contacts? (Any automation?)

What promise are you going to make to them about how you will follow up?

Greet, Give and Get, are two of the six steps to success during the event, and really the reason we are at the event. It’s our time to meet the attendees, share our story, give them something to remember us by, and get their information with a promise that we will follow up.

If you don’t already have a strategy that works for you, here’s something you can follow to help. And the cool part is……once it's set up, you can track your results to see what’s effective and what isn't.

  1. Know your story- And make sure everyone else who’s behind your booth knows your story. When people ask about your brand, be prepared to share it.

  2. Smile, be welcoming, and greet them with excitement. Nobody wants to approach you if you look miserable.

  3. Ask about them- What are they there for, what they’ve seen so far that’s cool, if they live local or traveled in,if they’ve heard about your brand before, what they do…… on and on and on. If small talk isn’t something you aren’t good at, have a list of questions you can ask everyone.

  4. Give them the gift- As you are talking to them, ask them if they’d like the product you’re handing out. IF you feel they are someone you really want to continue to build a relationship with, keep talking to them and offer them the Exclusive Product you brought (See lesson 5).

  5. Get their information- However you have planned to take their info, now's the time to ask for it. But, don’t just ask for it. Ask them if they’d like for you to follow up with them so you can provide ____________. (This could be a discount, a free consultation, whatever you want to offer them.)

This is also an opportunity for you to connect with them on social media and depending on how personal, exchange phone numbers. Either way, make sure it is personal and they know you aren’t just going to take their info to spam them.

Bonus- If you set up automation on the system you are taking contact information from, you can send a response immediately, thanking them for stopping by your booth and with your contact info. That way they can see it right there and you can make sure they got it.

  1. Thank them and remind them of your promise- Remind them to keep an eye out for your message immediately following the show.

We will go over automation and some other processes in the upcoming Masterclass. If you haven’t grabbed your spot, do it here. VIP members get a special Q&A session after each day + recordings + $250 in free credit to use towards your booth set up and the products to give away.
